M.-Saadeh Suleiman (PhD, DSc) is currently working as a Professor of Cardiac Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Bristol, UK. His current academic activities include teaching clinical and biomedical sciences to undergraduate and postgraduate students in both Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Faculty of Medical & Veterinary Sciences. Professor Suleiman’s current research is focused on investigating cellular mechanisms underlying the damaging effects of cardiac insults. Current clinical research includes investigating novel cardio-protective interventions during adult and paediatric cardiac surgery and during angioplasty. Distinctions include being a member of the team that was awarded the UK Hospital Doctor Award for Team of the Year in Surgery and runners up for Cardiovascular Medicine, election to the executive committee of the British Society for Cardiovascular Research, elected as Fellow of both the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences and the Society of Biology. Has more than 250 scientific publications including papers, reviews, book chapters and peer reviewed abstracts. Awarded more than 60 grants (as PI or collaborator) with income totalling more than £15Million. Professor Suleiman has organised and contributed as speaker to a large number of international meetings and has acted as a reviewer for national and international grant giving bodies and journals.

Marco Picichè is graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of Florence in 1995 and completed his cardiac surgery residency at the Tor Vergata University of Rome in 2000, both summa cum laude. He has worked as an Assistant at Saint Luc Hospital, Catholic University of Louvain, Brussels (1999–2001), as a Clinic Head/Hospital Assistant at the universities of Clermont-Ferrand (2003–2004) and Montpellier (2004–2007). He held regular teaching appointments at the University of Montpellier School of Medicine, obtained certification by the French Board in cardiac surgery (Paris, 2007), earned his research master in Surgical Science (Paris, 2007). In Canada he authored a research project on Noncoronary collateral circulation, which was submitted to the annual research competition at Québec Heart and Lung Institute, Laval University, and received the competition’s highest grant. In September 2011 he received a doctor of philosophy (PhD) in therapeutic innovations from Paris-Sud University. He is the Editor in Chief of the book: Dawn and evolution of cardiac procedures: research avenues in cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology. Currently he is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon in Italy.
